The death toll from the horrific bus crash on the N1 near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo has climbed to 42.

According to authorities, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, roll down an embankment, and land on its roof.

The ill-fated bus, which was travelling from Gqeberha, was carrying passengers from Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Officials confirmed that the victims include 18 adult females, 17 adult males, and seven children. Over 30 survivors have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency services say rescue efforts are ongoing, as some passengers are believed to still be trapped inside the wreckage.
