By A Correspondent – A heartbreaking tragedy struck in Mkoba 7, Gweru, after a police officer and his teenage son lost their lives in a suspected electrocution incident at their home on Thursday.
Police confirmed that Constable Isaac Madhaka, who was stationed at Gweru Central Police Station, died while trying to rescue his 15-year-old son, Takudzwa, after the teenager came into contact with a live electrical current.
According to reports, Takudzwa had been removing clothes from a washing line that had been tied to a TelOne wooden pole when he was suddenly electrocuted.
The teenager reportedly cried out for help, prompting his father to rush to the scene in an attempt to save him.
In the process, Constable Madhaka was also electrocuted. Both father and son died on the spot.
Police described the incident as deeply tragic and expressed condolences following the loss of one of their officers and his child.
“It is an unfortunate situation, and we feel sorry for one of our own. There is no evidence of an illegal electricity connection at the homestead. The connection was instead at a neighbour’s house,” police said.
Authorities added that the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is still investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
“The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company [ZETDC] is yet to establish what transpired.”
