ZRP Urges Public To Expose Corrupt Officers

Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has appealed to members of the public to report rogue police officers or individuals impersonating law enforcement agents who engage in corrupt activities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police urged citizens to expose any officers involved in misconduct such as demanding bribes, acting suspiciously, or failing to produce proper identification.

“The ZRP urges members of the public to report rogue police officers or individuals impersonating police officers who engage in misconduct such as demanding bribes, suspicious behavior or failure to produce identification,” read the statement.

The public has been encouraged to contact the official hotlines — 0713 407 906, (0242) 443 457, or (0242) 703 631 — or to report directly at the nearest police station.

While the statement signals renewed efforts to root out corruption, skepticism remains high among Zimbabweans who have long accused some officers of engaging in corrupt practices, especially at roadblocks and checkpoints.

Analysts argue that the ZRP’s credibility in fighting corruption will depend on whether reported cases are investigated thoroughly and action is taken against offenders. Without tangible results, critics warn, such appeals risk being dismissed as mere public relations gestures rather than genuine reform efforts.
