2030 Agenda: Makaza Warns Against Erosion Of Democratic Principles

Tinotenda Hove – The opposition Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) has called on Zimbabweans to unite and reject what it describes as a dangerous “2030 agenda” following moves by the ruling party to amend the Constitution and extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stay in office beyond 2028.

In a statement released on Monday, FFC leader Michael Makaza rallied citizens to stand together against the proposed constitutional changes, which have already ignited fierce political debate across the country.

The Freedom Fighters for Change leader warned that altering the Constitution to prolong the current administration’s rule undermines democratic principles and the will of the people.

“My people, let’s remain UNITED! A New Zimbabwe is coming!” said Makaza. “#FFC #UnitedWeStand #Zimbabwe.”

Makaza signed off the statement as: “Sincerely, Michael Makaza, President, FFC.”
The remarks come after the ZANU-PF administration tabled a controversial bill seeking to amend the Constitution, a move widely interpreted as an attempt to extend Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond the constitutionally mandated two-term limit set to end in 2028.

Critics argue that the proposed amendment threatens constitutionalism and sets a troubling precedent for Zimbabwe’s democratic trajectory. The FFC insists that citizens must “speak with one voice” and resist what it views as an erosion of democratic safeguards.

As debate over the 2030 agenda intensifies, opposition voices continue to press for adherence to constitutional limits, warning that the country’s democratic principles must not be compromised.
