Tinotenda Hove- Fresh details have emerged surrounding the deaths of Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner Martin Muduva and his wife, Lyliosa Chirara, with reports indicating that the fatal domestic dispute allegedly came shortly after Muduva formalised a customary marriage with another woman.

Muduva, who was also a lecturer at Midlands State University (MSU), is reported to have been in a relationship with Patience Mangwiro, the institution’s Acting Director of Enterprise, for about five years. The two reportedly have one child together.
Sources cited in reports say Muduva paid lobola for Mangwiro over the weekend in a ceremony commonly referred to as “Roora Day”.

Muduva is reported to have briefly posted a photograph from the ceremony on his WhatsApp status on Monday before deleting it, while Mangwiro also shared pictures from the customary marriage online.

The reported disclosure of the marriage preceded the fatal incident in Dzivarasekwa.
According to reports surrounding the case, Muduva was allegedly attacked with an axe while he was asleep. He reportedly sustained three blows in the attack, which ultimately claimed his life.

The developments have sent shockwaves through the MSU community, given the professional links between the individuals involved.

Reports also indicate that Mangwiro’s previous marriage had ended before her relationship with Muduva began.

Police are continuing with investigations to establish what transpired in the period leading up to the fatal confrontation and to determine the circumstances surrounding Muduva’s death and that of Chirara
