Tinotenda Hove- Zanu PF online activist Mairosi Watungwa on Thursday claimed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s trip to Moscow is proof that the Second Republic’s foreign policy is working.
Watungwa said the recent Russia visit has opened new avenues for cooperation in media, technology and human capital development.
“Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its international partnerships through economic diplomacy, strategic cooperation and global engagement,” Watungwa said.
He pointed to the renewed cooperation between Zimpapers and Russian media group Rossiya Segodnya as a concrete outcome of the engagement.
“The recent visit to Russia for the Third Russia-Africa Summit has opened new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including media, technology and human capital development,” he said.
According to Watungwa, the two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening information exchange.
“A practical example is the renewed cooperation between The Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited Group (Zimpapers) and Russian media organisation Rossiya Segodnya, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening information exchange and promoting authentic storytelling,” he said.
He argued the deal comes at a time when global media collaboration is critical.
“This partnership comes at a critical time when reliable information, technological innovation and international media collaboration are essential for national development,” Watungwa said.
He linked the partnership to the government’s long-term development plans.
“It aligns with the objectives of National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030, which emphasise economic transformation, innovation, international cooperation and Zimbabwe’s ambition to attain upper middle-income society status by 2030,” he said.
Watungwa further claimed the trip shows Mnangagwa’s diplomacy is producing tangible results.
“President Mnangagwa’s engagement with Russia demonstrates the Second Republic’s commitment to translating diplomatic relations into practical partnerships that contribute to national development,” he said.
“The Zimpapers-Rossiya Segodnya agreement illustrates how international engagements can create opportunities beyond traditional trade and investment. By expanding cooperation in the media sector, Zimbabwe is strengthening its global connections and opening new channels for information exchange, professional development and technological advancement. This reflects a leadership approach that seeks to turn international relationships into opportunities that benefit national institutions and citizens,” Watungwa said.
