By A Correspondent – Walter Mzembi’s attempt to bounce back into ZANU PF has hit a brick wall, with the Masvingo provincial leadership blocking his return until he explains alleged anti-party attacks on social media.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister, who was expelled from the ruling party in 2017 for belonging to the G40 faction, recently submitted an application to be readmitted. The application is now on hold.

Masvingo provincial chairman Robson Mavhenyengwa said the provincial executive had called Mzembi to a disciplinary hearing to answer to the posts but he failed to show up.

According to Mavhenyengwa, party officials wanted Mzembi to clarify social media content linked to him that criticised ZANU PF.

He said the secretariat had struggled to contact the former Masvingo South legislator, but expects him to attend the next meeting.

Mavhenyengwa dismissed social media speculation that Mzembi had already been welcomed back, clarifying that only Bikita’s Kudakwashe Gopo had been recommended for readmission.

Even if Masvingo clears him, Mzembi’s fate will still lie with the national leadership, which has the final say on whether former G40 stalwarts can return to the party fold.
