By A Correspondent | Kenyan-born politician Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley has secured a second term in the Minnesota House of Representatives after defeating her Republican challenger in the November 3 US mid-term elections.
Momanyi-Hiltsley, who represents District 38A covering Brooklyn Park and Osseo, celebrated the victory as a landslide win for her community.
“WE DID IT, DISTRICT 38A by a LANDSLIDE!” she said.
“Brooklyn Park and Osseo, my heart is overflowing. THANK YOU for trusting me to serve another term as your State Representative. Your support means more than I can put into words, and I will never take it for granted,” she said.
She thanked God, her family, volunteers, donors and community leaders for standing with her throughout the campaign.
“First, I thank God for His grace, strength, and protection throughout this journey,” she said.
“This victory belongs to every person who helped carry us here. To our volunteers, campaign staff, donors, community leaders, labor partners, friends, and neighbors: thank you for every door knocked, phone call made, conversation shared, donation given, and prayer lifted. You showed up in the rain, after long workdays, and when you were tired, and you made a difference,” she said.
Momanyi-Hiltsley also thanked her coordinated campaign partners and those who supported her even after a difficult primary, including Nehemiah Garley, Nico and Nia Imani.
“To my husband Bart Hiltsley, our children Jaydah Rae and JP, my parents Philip Momanyi/Tabitha Momanyi and my entire family, thank you for being my foundation. I love you more than words can say,” she said.
She also acknowledged her opponent, Charlie Kistler, for running for public office.
“And to my opponent, Charlie Kistler, thank you for having the courage to step forward and run for public office. I respect your willingness to serve and the commitment that required of you and your family,” she said.
Reflecting on a difficult period for Minnesota, she said the community had endured grief and uncertainty, from the loss of leader Melissa Hortman to the Annunciation shooting and the Metro surge.
“But we are still here. We are still standing,” she said.
“We continue to care for our neighbors, show up for one another, and believe that a better future is worth working for. As we celebrate, we hold close the families who are grieving and everyone still finding their way through difficult days,” she said.
She pledged to serve all residents in her district, regardless of how they voted.
“Whether you voted for me or chose someone else, I am your representative, and your voice matters to me,” she said.
“I am honored to continue this journey to keep listening, keep working, and keep bringing joy into politics. I am ready to work with anybody and everybody to move our community forward,” she said.
“Thank you, District 38A. We are STRONGER TOGETHER!” she added.
