Game-changing investments in mining, energy, and tourism set to transform province into economic powerhouse.
Masvingo- Masvingo Province is fast becoming Zimbabwe’s newest economic frontier, with strategic investments worth billions positioning it as a key driver of national growth.
As President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Second Republic pushes rural industrialisation and resource development, major projects in mining, energy, agriculture, and tourism are laying the groundwork for an ambitious US$8 billion economy by 2030.
During a media tour led by Information Minister Dr Zhemu Soda, officials witnessed firsthand how public-private partnerships are reshaping the province’s economic landscape.
Bikita Minerals Leads Value-Addition Drive
At Bikita Minerals, one of Zimbabwe’s largest lithium producers, the message was clear: local processing before export is the new order.
“We have invested US$383 million in recovering lithium, cesium, and tantalum concentrates,” said Assistant General Manager Engineer Thomas Mufumi.
“This supports Government’s value-addition agenda. We’re not just digging and shipping—we’re creating jobs and maximising returns,” he added, reaffirming the company’s commitment to downstream processing.
The investment is expected to stimulate related industries and boost export earnings.
Great Zimbabwe Hydro Plant Powers Up
The Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Plant currently generates five megawatts of electricity, but expansion plans are already in motion.
“We intend to become a significant contributor to the national grid,” said Projects Coordinator Engineer Ubert Chipfumbu.
“Our vision is to increase capacity, enhance energy security, and support industrial growth.”
The expansion is set to attract more investors to mining, agriculture, and manufacturing, while reducing Zimbabwe’s reliance on imported power.
Tourism Gets Major Boost
The newly completed Great Zimbabwe Visitors Centre is a game-changer for the province’s tourism sector.
“This is the first point of contact for visitors. It enriches their understanding of our heritage while offering modern amenities,” said National Museums and Monuments Regional Director Lovemore Mandima.
With Great Zimbabwe Monument, Lake Mutirikwi, and Gonarezhou National Park, the province is leveraging its cultural and natural assets to attract more tourists and create jobs.
Coordinated Growth Strategy Paying Off
Masvingo Provincial Affairs Secretary Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa said coordinated investments across sectors are building a strong foundation for sustained growth.
Minister Soda praised the province’s performance:
“Masvingo is performing exceptionally well and is steadily positioning itself to become a major contributor to GDP through growth in mining, agriculture, energy, tourism, and infrastructure.”
The projects toured—including the Masvingo Trumpet Interchange—reflect Zimbabwe’s broader push towards an upper-middle-income economy by 2030, driven by value addition, infrastructure modernisation, and energy security.
For Zimbabweans, the message is clear, Masvingo is no longer waiting- It’s building.
