Tinotenda Hove – Opposition movement Action Democratic Movement (ADM) on Tuesday issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it described as a system that has deliberately denied Zimbabweans, particularly young people, meaningful economic opportunities.
In a strong statement, the movement said many citizens have never experienced formal employment, not because of laziness, but because opportunities were systematically taken away from them.
“Some of our people have never worked a day in their lives — not because they are lazy, but because the system denied them opportunity. Some have never held a bank card, never earned a payslip, never accessed a loan — not by choice, but because circumstances were engineered against them,” the statement said.
ADM said the crisis is most visible among the youth, who are increasingly surviving on handouts instead of sustainable livelihoods.
“Today, many of our youths are surviving on crumbs. They are paraded before cameras and given handouts so that those in power can appear generous,” the movement said. “But let us speak the truth: the same people giving crumbs today are the same people who destroyed the future yesterday — and continue to destroy it today.”
The movement rejected charity-based politics, arguing that handouts cannot replace real economic empowerment.
“Charity is not empowerment. Handouts are not jobs. Food parcels are not an economy,” ADM said.
According to the statement, a government that genuinely cares about its people would prioritise building systems that enable citizens to work, earn and live with dignity.
“A government that truly cares does not reduce its citizens to beggars. It builds systems that allow people to work, earn, save, invest, and live with dignity. It creates factories, supports farmers, funds innovation, and opens doors for young people — not just during election seasons, but every day,” the movement said.
ADM stressed that Zimbabweans are demanding opportunity and fairness, not pity.
“Our youth do not want pity. They want opportunity. Our people do not want crumbs. They want a fair share,” the statement read, adding that “Zimbabwe does not need handouts. Zimbabwe needs leadership and a new system.”
Reaffirming its vision, the Action Democratic Movement said it believes in empowerment through work, education, entrepreneurship and justice.
“As the Action Democratic Movement, we believe in empowerment through work, education, entrepreneurship, and justice — not dependence. We believe in restoring dignity to every Zimbabwean, so that no one has to clap for crumbs stolen from their own future,” the statement said.
The movement concluded by calling for fundamental change, insisting that Zimbabwe’s future must be built through systemic reform.
“The future of Zimbabwe must be built, not donated. And it will only change when the system changes,” ADM said.
