Harare– The CCC Parliamentary Caucus has formally rejected a public donation announced by Wicknel Chivhayo on 18 April 2026, describing the unilateral gesture as “improper and suspect” amid growing concerns over political interference ahead of crucial constitutional debates.

The rejection comes just two days after Sir Wicknel took to his official Facebook page to announce the proposed donation to Members of Parliament. The CCC caucus said on Monday that the timing of the offer—as Parliament prepares to deliberate on Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3—risks undermining public confidence in the integrity of legislative processes.

“At no point was the CCC party or its parliamentary leadership consulted or informed of this proposed donation,” said Hon. Charles Moyo, Chief Whip of the CCC Parliamentary Caucus. “To proceed unilaterally, without engagement, is a breach of basic political protocol.”

The donation was announced on Independence Day by businessman Chivhayo, who publicly pledged $10,000 to Members of Parliament.

Sources indicate that Sir Wicknel’s 18 April announcement is directly linked to an earlier pledge, which has drawn sharp criticism from opposition lawmakers who view it as an attempt to influence pending legislation.

Chivhayo, known for his high-profile philanthropic gestures, has not yet responded to the CCC’s rejection. The caucus has demanded that Sir Wicknel immediately engage the official CCC leadership and redirect any assistance to vulnerable communities through proper, accountable structures rather than what they called a “political spectacle.”

“Parliamentarians are not for sale, and the legislative agenda of this nation is not for auction,” Moyo added.

The CCC has confirmed it will not accept the donation under any circumstances.
