Harare – Police have arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly confessed to cutting his friend’s throat with a kitchen knife and then sucking his blood, in a murder that has shocked the capital.

Shepherd Severa was taken into custody following the discovery of a blood-stained Toyota Aqua (registration AGO 2804) at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare at around 4:00 AM on 19th May 2026, according to a statement released Thursday by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

The victim, Brian Nandana, was killed in Warren Park D, Harare. Police say Severa allegedly confessed to the murder, claiming he cut his friend’s throat before sucking his blood.

Officers later led the suspect to a shallow grave at Warren Hills Cemetery, where Nandana’s body was recovered with a deep cut on the neck and a scar on the back of the head.

“The suspect led the police to a shallow grave at Warren Hills Cemetery where the victim’s body was retrieved with a deep cut on the neck and a scar on the back of the head,” said Commissioner P. Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations) to the Commissioner-General of Police.

Investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the murder are ongoing, and police said more details would be released in due course.

The motive for the killing remains unclear at this stage.
