Tinotenda Hove – Leader of the opposition party Freedom Fighters for Change, Michael Makaza, on Thursday issued a passionate call urging citizens to resist proposed constitutional changes that could extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office to 2030.

In a strongly worded message directed at the nation, Makaza called on Zimbabweans to defend the country’s founding principles and democratic framework.

“Stand up, Zimbabwe! It’s me, Michael Makaza! We’re fighting for our Constitution, with everything we’ve got and our blood! No to constitutional amendment! Let’s defend our democracy, our rights, and our future!” he said.

Makaza emphasized that the Constitution must be safeguarded from political manipulation, declaring that the struggle to protect democratic governance was ongoing.
“Hands off our Constitution. A luta continua. Freedom Fighters for Change — We Move,” he added.

His remarks come after Zanu PF tabled a Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament that seeks to extend President Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond the current constitutional limits to 2030, a move that has sparked debate across the political divide.
