Tinotenda Hove- Controversial businessman and Zanu PF-linked tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo has sparked a heated online debate after sharing photos of himself in a close embrace with female rapper Stefflon Don during a luxury outing in Dubai.
The images, which quickly spread across social media platforms, have exposed the growing wealth gap in Zimbabwe, with many users criticising the display as tone-deaf amid the country’s worsening economic struggles.
Chivayo, known for showcasing his lavish lifestyle, shared the pictures while describing the musician as one of his favourite artists. The post highlighted his Dubai experience at a time when many Zimbabweans continue to battle rising living costs, unemployment and economic uncertainty.
The businessman, who is a member of the Johanne Masowe Apostolic Church, has previously drawn public attention over his wealth, political connections and controversial tender dealings.
Writing on Facebook, Chivayo praised the rapper and described their meeting as a memorable moment.
“FAN LOVE…It was a great pleasure meeting and having dinner with one of my favourite female rappers and good friend in Dubai last week. @stefflondon,” he posted.
He added that the artist’s music had a powerful impact on audiences around the world.
“It was indeed truly amazing to meet such an extraordinary artist whose voice is more than just music. It’s emotion, it’s strength, and inspiration wrapped in every note,” Chivayo said.
“The passion, grace, and dedication you bring to your craft have touched countless hearts around the world, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have stood in your presence,” he added.
However, critics on social media accused Chivayo of displaying a lifestyle far removed from the daily realities facing ordinary Zimbabweans. Some questioned whether public figures with close links to political power should be more sensitive when showcasing luxury experiences during a period of economic hardship.
The latest controversy has revived debate around wealth inequality, political influence and the visibility of affluent lifestyles in a country where many citizens continue to struggle financially.
While Chivayo’s supporters defended the post as a simple celebration of meeting an admired artist, critics argued that the images reflected a growing disconnect between Zimbabwe’s wealthy elite and the economic challenges faced by the majority.
