Kwekwe– Parliament of Zimbabwe has convened its Hansard staff at King Solomon’s Hotel in Kwekwe to develop a comprehensive editorial manual aimed at strengthening the accuracy, impartiality, consistency and professionalism of the legislature’s official records.

In a statement, Parliament said the workshop marks “a significant step towards establishing a unified standard for capturing and preserving parliamentary debates faithfully, ensuring that every word spoken in Parliament remains authoritative, reliable and accessible.”

The manual is expected to codify editorial rules for transcribing and preserving debates, replacing fragmented practice with a single standard for the official verbatim record.

Parliament framed the initiative as central to public trust in the legislature, noting that the record must remain authoritative and accessible to citizens.

Hansard is the official verbatim report of parliamentary proceedings, serving as the primary source for lawmakers, courts, researchers, the media and the public.

The Kwekwe workshop brings together Hansard staff tasked with drafting the manual and aligning editorial practice across the institution.

The statement however did not specify a completion date for the manual or the number of staff attending the workshop.
