Tinotenda Hove – The High Court is set to deliver sentencing on Monday in the high-profile fraud case involving businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, who were convicted of using falsified documents to secure a tender under the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.

The pair was found guilty of misrepresenting their capacity to supply goats for the national programme, leading to a loss of US$7 million to the Government. According to court findings, the duo submitted fabricated paperwork to win the lucrative tender, undermining a scheme designed to support rural farmers and strengthen livestock production.

Their conviction has drawn significant public attention, with many viewing the case as a critical test of transparency and accountability in public procurement. Legal experts say Monday’s sentencing will likely send a strong message regarding the consequences of abusing government programmes for personal gain.

The court is expected to outline the penalties when it hands down its ruling at the start of the week.
