Harare- The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare has pledged government’s commitment to ensuring the empowerment, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving none and no place behind.
The prevalence of disability in Zimbabwe is estimated to be 9.5%, according to the Zimbabwe 2022 Population and Housing Census Report, according to a report by Veritas.
This means that persons with disabilities (PWDs) constitute a significant portion of the total population hence must not be excluded from participating fully in society.
President Mnangagwa recently donated Mahindra vehicles and wheelchairs to prominent PWDs including Tongai Greatman Gwaze and Chipo Muchegwa. The duo have been mobilising for wheelchairs in the Makumbo kuvanhu campaign where they also received wheelchairs from Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, Miniyothabo Chiwenga.
