Tinotenda Hove- Citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has taken aim at President Emmerson Mnangagwa following the embarrassing power outage that interrupted his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament earlier this week.

The blackout, which struck while Mnangagwa was addressing lawmakers, left the chamber in darkness and quickly became a symbol of the broader failures of governance under the ruling ZANU PF administration.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Chamisa mocked the episode as a reflection of Zimbabwe’s failing systems and leadership paralysis.

“TRABABLAS IN PARLIAMENT… It’s trabablas everywhere,” Chamisa said. “TRABABLAS in the constitution. TRABABLAS in the rigging of elections. TRABABLAS in the ruining party. TRABABLAS in the economy. TRABABLAS in corruption and looting of national resources. TRABABLAS at home and in the diaspora. It’s TRABABLAS everywhere. It’s chaos everywhere.”

He added that even those responsible for the chaos are now consumed by their own failures.

“Failure consumes even its author!! When failure multiplies, even its author can’t be spared. Chibani muParliament here veduwe!! It’s the #StateOftheNation depicted!” Chamisa said.

The opposition leader’s remarks have resonated widely on social media, where citizens expressed frustration over power cuts, corruption, and Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation.

While government officials have dismissed the blackout as a minor technical fault, Chamisa’s comments underscore a growing perception among Zimbabweans that the outage symbolised much more than a temporary loss of electricity — it exposed the deep-rooted failure of leadership at the highest level.
