Tinotenda Hove – Prominent Zimbabwean cleric Bishop Kevin Nyamakanga has caused a stir after publicly announcing his decision to join the ruling ZANU-PF party, marking a significant shift in his political stance.

The bishop made the announcement on Monday, opening his address with the words, “Hareruya hama dzinodikana!” before explaining the reasons behind his move.

“Today I stand before you not as a perfect man, but as a servant of God and of the people of Zimbabwe,” Nyamakanga said. “I have walked a different political path before, speaking from the opposition benches, believing I was standing for justice and truth.”

He acknowledged his past alignment with opposition politics but said leadership demands humility and self-reflection. “Leadership also requires humility—the courage to listen, reflect, and realign when conscience leads,” he said.

Nyamakanga framed his decision as one rooted in faith and a desire for national cohesion. “As a church leader, I am guided by faith, which teaches reconciliation, peace, and nation-building,” he said. “Seasons change, and wisdom grows. I believe this is the moment for unity rather than division, for dialogue rather than hostility. A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

The bishop stressed that his move to ZANU-PF was a personal and principled choice rather than one driven by pressure. “I am joining ZANU-PF today not out of fear or convenience, but out of conviction that Zimbabwe needs all of us working together,” he said.

He added that his role would remain centered on service and prayer. “I come to contribute positively, to pray for our leaders, and to help build, heal, and strengthen our nation. Let us move forward together, putting Zimbabwe first.”
Nyamakanga’s announcement has sparked wide debate across political and religious circles, with supporters and critics alike weighing in on the growing intersection between the church and party politics in Zimbabwe.
