By A Correspondent – A sports director at Allan Wilson Boys High School in Harare has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a 17-year-old pupil.

Innocent Kashiri, 45, who was residing in a cottage at the school, was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault by Harare regional magistrate Jessie Kufa.

The court heard that in 2023, Kashiri allegedly produced a letter at the school office which purported to have been authored by headmaster Tafara Zhou. The letter allegedly gave him permission to engage in anal sex with the pupil.
Prosecutor Shiela Mpindu told the court that the pupil, fearing the consequences and believing the letter was genuine, complied with Kashiri’s demands. The sexual assault occurred once.

The pupil later disclosed the incident to his science teacher, Susan Sibanda, who advised him to report the matter to the police.

The case was subsequently reported to the police on 19 June 2026, leading to Kashiri’s prosecution and eventual conviction.
