Tinotenda Hove- Mbizo Constituency opposition Member of Parliament Corban Madzivanyika has underscored the need for Parliament to exercise its oversight role and hold the Executive accountable for decisions involving resource-backed loans.

Speaking at a high-level breakfast dialogue on resource-backed loans organised by the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Madzivanyika highlighted the importance of ensuring that legislators have access to adequate information on government borrowing.

He argued that Parliament cannot effectively scrutinise borrowing agreements without sufficient information from the Executive, raising the importance of transparency and accountability in decisions that affect the management of public resources.

Madzivanyika’s contribution comes amid broader discussions about the oversight of resource-backed loans, which involve using a country’s natural resources or future resource revenues to secure financing.

The dialogue provided a platform to examine Parliament’s responsibilities in scrutinising such arrangements and ensuring that decisions involving national resources are subjected to effective oversight.
