Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has confirmed that by-elections will be held tomorrow, Saturday, 25 October 2025, in three wards across the country.
Addressing journalists at a press conference held at the ZEC Head Office in Harare on Friday afternoon, ZEC Deputy Chairperson, Ambassador R. S. Kiwa, announced that preparations for the by-elections in Ward 4 of Gutu Rural District Council (RDC), Ward 21 of Chimanimani RDC, and Ward 12 of Mangwe RDC have been successfully completed.
Ambassador Kiwa said the Commission is ready to conduct the polls in line with the country’s electoral laws and COVID-19 safety guidelines.
“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is fully prepared to conduct the three ward by-elections scheduled for tomorrow, 25 October 2025. All necessary logistical and administrative arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process,” Ambassador Kiwa told reporters.
He added that ballot papers, voting materials, and election officers have been deployed to all the designated polling stations.
The by-elections are being held to fill vacancies that arose following the death or resignation of sitting councillors in the respective wards.
Ambassador Kiwa encouraged all registered voters in the affected wards to turn out in their numbers to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
“Voter participation is key to strengthening our democracy. We urge all registered voters in Gutu, Chimanimani, and Mangwe to go out and vote peacefully,” he said.
The announcement comes as political parties intensify last-minute mobilization efforts in the three districts, with both ruling and opposition candidates expressing optimism ahead of the polls.
Results from the by-elections are expected to be announced soon after the completion of vote counting in each ward.
