Honest Makanyire – Media personality and Wild Africa ambassador Tariro Gezi has called on women working in wildlife areas to take advantage of Wildlife Info, a WhatsApp-based tool designed to improve safety and reduce human-wildlife conflict.
“Women in the field face unique challenges, and having access to real-time guidance can make all the difference,” Gezi said. “Wildlife Info empowers them with the knowledge to live and work safely alongside animals like hippos, elephants, lions, crocodiles, and baboons.”
The tool, available in English or Ndebele, provides practical guidance, including:
Reducing human-wildlife conflict, such as crop damage and livestock losses
Reporting wildlife crime or injured animals
Safety advice on elephant and other wildlife behaviour…
Visual guides, tips, and interactive learning content
Users can access the service by sending “Hi” on WhatsApp to +263 78 727 6366.
Wildlife Info is supported by Wild Africa, Zimparks, Save the Elephants, Elephant Crisis Fund, Wildlife Conservation Action, Tikobane Trust-Zimbabwe, and Connected Conservation.
“Every message sent through this platform is a step toward safer, more empowered women in conservation,” Gezi added. “Knowledge is the best tool when working alongside wildlife.”
