Mutare — Manica Diamonds Football Club has retracted recent public remarks made by its club president regarding a sponsorship deal, clarifying on Saturday that references to a specific individual sponsoring the team were “premature” and do not reflect the club’s current position.

In a press release dated 9 May 2026, the Premier Soccer League side confirmed that while multiple corporate entities have expressed interest, no formal sponsorship agreement has been finalised or announced.

“The club notes that references made suggesting that a specific individual would sponsor the team were made prematurely and do not reflect the current position of the club,” the statement, issued by club spokesperson Tapiwa L Mbidzo, read.

The club said it is currently engaged in discussions with a number of potential corporate sponsors and strategic partners as part of efforts to strengthen its commercial base and ensure sustainable growth.

Among the interested parties, Betterbrands Gold has come forward, alongside various other potential sponsors, after the club put out a call for support. However, Manica Diamonds stressed that all negotiations are ongoing and that no agreement has been signed.

“The club remains committed to conducting all sponsorship negotiations professionally and will communicate officially once discussions have been concluded and agreements have been duly signed,” the statement added.

The clarification follows what appears to be an unauthorised or premature announcement by the club president, whose name was not disclosed in the release.

Manica Diamonds FC thanked its supporters, stakeholders, and partners for their continued confidence in the club’s vision and future.
