Tinotenda Hove – Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo has dismissed as false claims circulating on social media that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has increased examination fees for 2026.

Minister Moyo said examination fees for Grade 7, Form 4 and Form 6 public examinations scheduled for November 2026 have not been increased and remain the same as those charged in 2025.

“I wish to inform the nation that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council examination fees for 2026 have not been increased by 100% as purported on social media,” said Moyo. “I wish to correct that it’s just a fabrication by social media.”

He stressed that there has been no change in fees for candidates writing public examinations next year. “The examination fees for the public examinations for Grade 7, Form 4, and Form 6 for the 2026 November examinations have not been increased. They remain the same,” he said.

Moyo added that candidates, particularly those in government schools, will continue paying the usual amounts. “All the candidates who sit for the public examinations, especially those who are in government schools, will pay the normal examination fees,” he said.

The minister also confirmed that the government subsidy remains in place. “In fact, I wish to categorically state that the 55% subsidy offered by the government remains the same,” he said, adding that examination fees have not changed over the past five years.
“So all the fees have not changed for the past five years. So it is important to correct the misinformation that was peddled on social media,” Moyo said.

However, he clarified that candidates sitting for the June 2026 public examinations will not benefit from the 55% subsidy. He explained that most June candidates are private or repeat candidates and therefore do not qualify under the government subsidy scheme.
