Business Correspondent – Young entrepreneurs across Zimbabwe say the life story of Dr Banabasi Marambire, the founder of Barmlo Investments, has become a powerful source of inspiration, proving that determination and perseverance can overcome even the most difficult circumstances.

Dr Marambire’s journey from poverty to business success has encouraged many aspiring entrepreneurs to remain focused on their dreams despite the challenges they face.

Growing up as an orphan in Zimbabwe alongside eight siblings, Marambire endured severe hardship and hunger during his childhood. At the age of 14, he was diagnosed with kwashiorkor as a result of poor nutrition.

To help support his family, he sold beans, sweet potatoes and other vegetables before relocating to Botswana at the age of 18 in search of better opportunities.

After settling there, he continued selling agricultural produce before later working as a herd boy, earning just US$15 a month while saving towards his dream of becoming a successful businessman.

Today, many young entrepreneurs say Marambire’s life demonstrates that one’s background does not determine one’s future.

“He started with almost nothing but refused to give up. His story gives us hope that we can also build successful businesses if we remain disciplined and committed,” said one aspiring entrepreneur.

Beyond his achievements in business, Marambire has also won admiration for giving back to society through Barmlo Investments, which continues to support vulnerable people and various needy causes.

Young entrepreneurs say his commitment to uplifting disadvantaged communities shows that true success is measured not only by financial achievement but also by making a positive difference in the lives of others.
