Tinotenda Hove – Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again made headlines after announcing another lavish vehicle giveaway, handing out luxury cars and cash to leaders of the Johanne Masowe Chishanu church in what he described as an act of appreciation for their service.
In a statement released on Friday, Chivayo said he was impressed by preparations for the church’s annual Musangano Wegore, scheduled for August 2026, and praised the leadership for their dedication to the spiritual growth of congregants.
“As we draw closer to our annual Musangano Wegore to be held in August 2026, I am highly impressed by the level of preparation that has gone into ensuring that the vigil will be a resounding success,” Chivayo said.
He showered praise on church leaders, saying they had sacrificed their comfort, time and personal resources to serve the church.
“These are men who have sacrificed their comfort, their time and in most instances, their personal resources in service to the church. They carry the burdens of the congregation and tirelessly ensure that the teachings dza Baba Johane remain alive and relevant in every generation,” he said.
Chivayo reiterated his promise to reward church leaders with vehicles, declaring, “As I promised, if God blesses me, mupositori wese achafamba nemota. Vaive varombo vachave vapfumi nekunamata.”
As part of the latest donation spree, Chivayo singled out three senior church leaders for special recognition, awarding each a brand-new 2026 Lexus LX valued at US$250,000, along with US$50,000 each for fuel and upkeep.
The beneficiaries are Baba Lawrence Katsiru of Marondera Branch, Baba Gibson of Chinhevere/Chiweshe Branch, and Baba Israel of the Coca-Cola Branch.
“Please go and see Victor at Exquisite Motos on Tuesday morning and each receive a brand-new 2026 Lexus LX500D, valued at USD 250,000 each which has been fully paid,” Chivayo said.
He also rewarded 12 additional church leaders from various branches with brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner SUVs, each reportedly worth US$78,000, plus US$10,000 for fuel.
“Please also go and see Victor today and each collect a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner valued at USD 78,000 and each one of you will also get US$10,000 for fuel,” he said.
Congratulating the recipients, Chivayo thanked them for their commitment to the church.
“To all our leaders, I say a big congratulations. Thank you for your love, your sacrifice, your guidance and your unquestionable commitment to the work of God. May God continue to bless you abundantly,” he said.
The latest giveaway adds to Chivayo’s growing reputation for splashing millions of dollars on luxury vehicles for celebrities, religious figures and public personalities, further fueling debate over his extravagant displays of wealth and political connections.
