Harare— The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has dismissed as a “malicious fabrication” a social media document falsely attributing support for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 to party President Welshman Ncube, accusing unnamed opponents of a desperate bid to manufacture consensus for the embattled legislation.

In a statement released Wednesday, CCC spokesperson Willias Madzimure said the purported presidential statement circulating online is “FAKE,” noting that its timing exposes a calculated attempt to create false impressions as proponents of the amendment struggle to secure public backing.

“Having failed to generate sufficient public traction for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, there now appears to be a desperate attempt to create the false impression that President Welshman Ncube is a supporter of CAB3,” Madzimure said.

The party reaffirmed its outright rejection of the amendment, describing the processes behind CAB3 as “opaque, secretive, exclusive, non-participatory, cabal driven and therefore fundamentally flawed.”

Madzimure reiterated that CCC MPs in Parliament are articulating the party’s position in line with public record, adding that any legitimate constitutional reform must be “transparent, open, honest, sincere, in good faith” and aimed at expanding citizens’ fundamental freedoms.

“The fundamentally flawed processes in the paternity of CAB3 have prevented and inhibited proper, open, honest and effective national discourse on what would be proper and merited Constitutional reform measures at this juncture of our national history,” he said.

The CCC vowed to remain committed to protecting Zimbabwe’s Constitution, democratic accountability, and citizens’ sovereign right to determine their country’s future through genuine democratic processes.

The party urged Zimbabweans to reject misinformation and remain vigilant against attempts to manipulate public opinion through fabricated documents and false narratives.
