Tinotenda Hove – Government has announced a sweeping ban on tinted windows for both public transporters and private vehicles, a move authorities say is aimed at improving security and road safety.
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana raised the issue on Tuesday, questioning the motives behind car tinting. “Why do people tint their cars? Is it for the sleek look, UV protection, or privacy or other nefarious objectives?” he asked.
The official ban was confirmed by Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti, the Permanent Secretary for Presidential Affairs, who made the announcement on the same day. He emphasized that all vehicles found on the roads with tinted windows will be deemed to be in violation of the new directive.
The government has not yet clarified whether any exemptions will be granted for medical or official vehicles, but authorities maintain that the policy is necessary to curb potential abuse of tinted windows for criminal activities.
