Tinotenda Hove- Two women, aged 18 and 29, have died in a devastating fire that broke out in a room where they had reportedly been locked in Gombakomba Village on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the victims, who were reportedly living with mental health challenges, were inside the room when the fire started on August 8, 2026.

“Two women aged 18 and 29, who were reportedly mentally challenged, died after a fire broke out in the room in which they had been locked,” police said.

The bodies were taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.
Police said investigations are underway to establish what led to the fire and the circumstances surrounding the women being locked inside the room.

The ZRP has meanwhile urged the public to take greater care when looking after vulnerable people, particularly those who require close supervision and specialised care.

The tragedy has raised concerns over the safety of vulnerable individuals and the need for appropriate measures to protect those unable to safeguard themselves.
