Tinotenda Hove – Tragedy has rocked Mberengwa District following the deaths of three learners from Musume Primary School whose bodies were discovered in a disused mine pit on Sunday.

The incident has left the local community in mourning and prompted authorities to launch investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.

Mberengwa District Development Co-ordinator, Mr Vafios Hlabati, confirmed the incident and said early indications point to a tragic accident. He explained that the children are believed to have drowned while swimming in the abandoned mine pit.

The deaths have reignited concerns over the danger posed by disused mining sites, which are common across the district. Community leaders and residents have once again called for urgent safety measures, including the fencing off of abandoned pits, warning that such sites continue to pose a serious threat, especially to children.
