By A Correspondent- Zanu PF Varakashi leader Dereck Goto has issued a statement following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
In a statement on Thursday, Goto said the death would trigger intense public debate and warned Zimbabweans to prepare for a wave of speculation.
“Brace yourselves. The next few days are going to be loud. Wicknell’s death will not be allowed to simply be a death. It will become a battlefield of theories, prophecies and competing narratives,” he said.
“There will be conspiracy theories. There will be prophets emerging from the woodwork, claiming they foresaw it. There will be those mourning, and inevitably, those celebrating,” Goto said.
He said despite differing views on Chivayo’s life, death remains a common reality for everyone.
“But strip away the noise, and one truth remains: Death belongs to all of us. Rich or poor. Powerful or powerless. Celebrated or despised. Our differences shape how we live. They do not exempt us from how life ends,” he said.
“So mourn if you need to. Reflect if you can. But never celebrate another person’s death as though mortality has forgotten your address,” Goto added.
Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and four other passengers died on Wednesday night when their helicopter crashed at Kudenga Farm in Marondera. The six were travelling from Gandami in Chikomba, where the couple was building their rural home, when the aircraft went down 40 minutes after take-off.
