Tinotenda Hove- Former Victoria Falls Ward 10 councillor Nkanyiso Sibindi has been released on US$300 bail following his arrest on allegations of malicious damage to property after a city council laptop was allegedly destroyed during a heated council meeting.

The 38-year-old appeared before Magistrate Fadzai Dzimire last week, who granted bail and postponed the matter to a later date.

According to the State, the incident unfolded on Thursday during a full council meeting shortly after Sibindi and two other Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors were recalled from their positions.

Prosecutor Audrey Mukanganya told the court that the dispute began when a ministerial letter announcing the recall of the three councillors was read before council.

“On June 4, 2026, at around 5:30 pm, the accused was attending an ordinary council meeting at the Victoria Falls City Council Chambers,” Mukanganya said.
“A ministerial letter recalling three councillors, including the accused, was read by the Town Clerk, Ronnie Dube.”

The court heard that Mayor Prince Thuso Moyo subsequently instructed the recalled councillors to leave the chamber.

However, they allegedly refused to comply, prompting the mayor to direct security officials to remove them.

Mukanganya said Sibindi allegedly challenged the legitimacy of the recall and maintained that he would not leave the meeting, resulting in police being called to the scene.
The State further alleges that Sibindi then crossed over the boardroom table, seized a Victoria Falls City Council HP Core i5 laptop and hurled it to the floor before stomping on it.

“He then jumped over the boardroom table, grabbed the Victoria Falls City Council HP Core i5 laptop, threw it to the ground and jumped on it, causing damage,” the prosecutor told the court.

The damaged laptop is reportedly valued at US$975, and the court heard that it has not yet been repaired.

The case is expected to return to court on a later date.
