By A Correspondent – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified efforts to track down a suspected armed robber following the fatal shooting of two police detectives in Zaka, Masvingo Province.
In a press statement issued on 01 March 2026, the police confirmed that they are appealing to members of the public for information that may lead to the arrest of 50-year-old Daniel Munyanyi of Ndume Village under Chief Ndanga in Zaka.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the location and arrest of armed robbery and murder suspect Daniel Munyanyi (50) of Ndume Village, Chief Ndanga, Zaka, Masvingo,” the statement read.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly shot and killed two detectives in the early hours of Saturday morning while they were on duty. “The suspect shot and killed two police detectives on 01 March 2026 at 0500 hours at Ndume Village, Zaka, Masvingo,” the ZRP said.
The slain officers have been identified as Detective Constable Bernard Chimbeke (37) and Detective Constable Mckenzie Chitsowe (43). The two were reportedly part of a team investigating a series of armed robbery cases in Harare and surrounding areas.
“The two detectives were part of a team tracking the suspect for armed robbery cases which occurred in Harare and surrounding areas. More details on the murder of Detective Constables Bernard Chimbeke (37) and Mckenzie Chitsowe (43) will be released in due course,” the statement added.
Following the tragic incident, the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
“Meanwhile the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba expresses his deepest condolences to the Chimbeke and Chitsowe families over this unfortunate incident and tragic loss,” the police said.
Investigations are ongoing, and the police have urged anyone with information that may assist in locating the suspect to come forward.
