Tinotenda Hove – ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has said the late liberation war veteran Blessed Geza should be accorded a dignified burial in recognition of his contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, arguing that his recent criticism of the ruling party was a result of ill health.
Speaking to the Daily News, Mutsvangwa described Geza as a “respected patriot,” insisting that his long history of service to the country could not be undone by what he termed his “recent waywardness.”
Mutsvangwa suggested that Geza’s late opposition to ZANU PF was influenced by his deteriorating health, saying the veteran had “faltered at the last mile.”
“We blame this on the fact that Geza was no longer well,” Mutsvangwa told the Daily News. “He was thus not thinking properly, which made him vulnerable to people who want to steal the history of the people of Zimbabwe.”
Despite the tensions that marked Geza’s final days, Mutsvangwa said the party was prepared to reconcile with him posthumously.
“We embrace him back,” he said, adding that Geza deserved a decent burial and acknowledgement for his role in the national liberation war.
