Tinotenda Hove – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has strongly criticised the growing trend of recording and sharing footage of road traffic accidents, branding the behaviour as cruel and inconsistent with the principles of Ubuntu.

Speaking before a large crowd at Maphisa Stadium during Saturday’s 46th Independence Day commemorations, Mnangagwa voiced deep unease over what he described as the misuse of digital platforms by certain individuals and organised groups.

“I, note with grave concern the increasing abuse of social media by some unscrupulous persons and groups,” he said.

The President singled out the practice of capturing graphic accident scenes and circulating them online, condemning it in the strongest terms.

“The recording of road traffic accidents and the subsequent distribution of such material, is totally unacceptable, inhumane and against the values of Ubuntu,” he stated.

Mnangagwa went on to signal his administration’s intention to tighten oversight of digital spaces, arguing that stronger controls are necessary to safeguard citizens and preserve national values.

“My Administration will, without apology, protect our citizens, especially children, as well as our culture, beliefs and way of life, from the hazards of media and new technologies,” said President Mnangagwa.
