Tinotenda Hove – A 49-year-old medical doctor, Farikai Manjeya, has appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court alongside Tafara Chigoya (28), Kudakwashe Godknows Mutata (29), and Tariro Pambwa (35) after they were allegedly caught smoking methamphetamine, commonly known as Mutoriro.
According to police, detectives received a tip-off about illegal drug activities taking place at the cottages where Dr. Manjeya resides in Gweru. Acting on the information, officers conducted a raid on November 9, 2025, and reportedly found the four suspects smoking crystal meth using J-pipes and cigarette lighters.
The police seized the drug paraphernalia, including the J-pipes, a lighter, and an empty sachet, before arresting all four individuals.
The accused appeared in court facing charges of possession and use of dangerous drugs, in violation of the country’s drug control laws. They were remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.
Law enforcement authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug abuse across the country, warning that anyone involved in the use or distribution of illicit substances will face the full force of the law.
