Tinotenda Hove- Kuwadzana West MP Hon Johnson Matambo has urged Zimbabweans not to be distracted by the political drama within Zanu PF, arguing that the country’s deepening social and economic challenges deserve greater attention than the ruling party’s internal power struggles.
In a strong statement on Saturday, Matambo said the central concern should be the alleged manipulation of constitutional processes by those in power and the hardships confronting ordinary citizens.
“It’s really disturbing to note that constitutional processes are being manipulated,” Matambo said.
He stressed that while the opposition had no direct involvement in Zanu PF’s internal affairs, developments within the ruling party raised broader concerns about constitutional governance and the country’s future.
“While we have nothing to do with Zanu PF affairs, what is of concern is the suffering of citizens, unemployment, health crisis,” he said.
Matambo’s remarks come amid controversy surrounding Zanu PF’s decision to postpone its congress to 2029, a move intended to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power.
The decision has intensified debate over leadership succession, constitutional procedures and the implications of extending Mnangagwa’s tenure.
Matambo urged Zimbabweans not to get carried away by the political hullabaloo, pointing instead to the daily struggles of citizens grappling with unemployment, difficulties accessing healthcare and economic hardships.
His criticism places the spotlight on the contrast between the ruling party’s internal political manoeuvres and the pressing needs of ordinary Zimbabweans struggling to survive.
For Matambo, the key issue is not who gains or retains power within Zanu PF, but whether those in authority are respecting constitutional processes and addressing the challenges affecting the population.
He maintained that citizens’ suffering should remain at the centre of national debate, rather than allowing political power struggles to overshadow unemployment, the health crisis and the need for accountable governance.
