Tinotenda Hove- Tragedy struck on the Harare-Nyamapanda Road on Monday afternoon after a head-on crash between two Isuzu D-Max vehicles claimed five lives and left nine people injured.

The accident happened at the 101km peg at around 2:40pm, according to police.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the details in a statement. “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on July 27, 2026 at around 2:40 pm at the 101 km peg along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road,” he said.

He added that the collision involved two bakkies traveling in opposite directions. “Five people were killed, while nine others sustained injuries when an Isuzu D-Max with one passenger on board was involved in a head on collision with another Isuzu D-Max with 14 passengers on board,” Nyathi said.

Emergency services rushed the injured to hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to a mortuary for identification.

The crash comes less than six hours after another fatal accident in the Midlands. Three people died at about 9am on Monday at the 80km peg along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road when a shackman truck collided with an AD Van.

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and avoid overtaking where it is not safe, especially on long distance routes.
