Tinotenda Hove – Prominent preacher Trymore Muparinga has lodged a police complaint against fellow preacher Dickson Nhumwa, accusing him of harassing and defaming him on social media.
The dispute follows a video posted online by Nhumwa in which he alleged that Muparinga had been diverting church offerings for personal indulgences, including alcohol and relationships with women.
Muparinga has strongly rejected the accusations, insisting the claims are false and motivated by personal resentment. He argued that the conflict stems from financial disagreements related to money he reportedly received from businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
“I have never used church money for personal enjoyment or to buy alcohol as he claims,” Muparinga said.
“We once worked together in ministry, but he seemed to think he had a right to the money I received. I believe this is simply bitterness, and I have now chosen to let the police handle the matter.”
Muparinga also confirmed that he has engaged a lawyer to assist with the case, adding that he has endured repeated public attacks in the past.
In his video, Nhumwa reflected on their earlier years preaching together from around 2007 along Harare’s First Street before they later relocated their ministry activities to Masvingo.
He claimed he was worried about Muparinga’s conduct and suggested that the situation required intervention from the broader Christian community.
“Mukomana (Muparinga), akunyanya kuti pese paaenda kunoparidza apihwa mari dzepa Altar odzishandisa kudhakwa ne kukicha,” Nhumwa said in the video.
Muparinga has previously drawn attention within church circles after a photograph circulated online showing him holding what appeared to be a brown bottle of alcohol.
