Tinotenda Hove- A devastating road accident near Chivhu has claimed the lives of 27 people, leaving the African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) community grappling with an immense loss.

The tragedy occurred on Friday night along the Harare–Masvingo Highway when a commuter omnibus carrying church members travelling from Dema in Chitungwiza to a gathering in Mvuma collided head-on with a haulage truck.

Both vehicles caught fire following the impact.
African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) Chitungwiza Provincial Secretary Sladge Musanhu described the scale of the tragedy as particularly painful, saying some families had been completely wiped out.

“Entire households lost,” Musanhu said, highlighting the devastating impact of the crash on the church and the affected families.

The 27 fatalities have sent shockwaves through the community, with relatives and fellow church members mourning the loss of loved ones in one of the country’s deadliest recent road accidents.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety along the busy Harare–Masvingo corridor, where collisions involving heavy trucks and passenger vehicles can have catastrophic consequences.
