By A Correspondent -During this Women’s Month, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa hosted female councillors from across Zimbabwe’s political divide at her Zimbabwe House offices over the weekend.

The councillors brought cooking equipment and utensils for her care homes, but some political observers argue the gesture masks a deeper political motive.
“Events like this are often more about optics than genuine unity,” one observer commented.

Another noted, “Welcoming opposition figures in this way can be seen as an attempt to soften criticism ahead of controversial moves like the presidential term extension.”
Dr Mnangagwa framed the occasion under the theme “Give to Gain,” emphasizing community service.

However, critics say the event highlights a growing strategy to co-opt political opponents rather than foster real cooperation. “It sends a message that dissenting voices can be pacified with symbolic gestures,” a political analyst remarked.

Observers warn that while the gathering appears charitable, it may be part of a calculated effort to consolidate support and weaken opposition influence ahead of looming constitutional changes.
