ZRP Names Seven Victims of Silobela Mine Tragedy, Urges Miners to Prioritise Safety

Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of seven artisanal miners who died following a tragic mine collapse that occurred on November 5, 2025, at Auriga 47 Mine, Base Mineral Block, Nzwananzwi Village in Silobela.

In a statement issued on November 10, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatalities and expressed condolences to the affected families.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the seven victims who were identified by their next of kin,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

The victims have been identified as:

  • Qubekhani Mahlube (27) of Nazareth Village, Thombankala, Malisa, Zhombe
  • Bafana Osca (24) of Nazareth Village, Thombankala, Malisa, Zhombe
  • Nhengure Albert (26) of Nazareth Village, Thombankala, Malisa, Zhombe
  • Amos Bafana (41) of Nazareth Village, Thombankala, Malisa, Zhombe
  • Bhiliot Bhepe (40) of Nazareth Village, Thombankala, Malisa, Zhombe
  • John Dube (34) of Muganga Village, Malisa, Zhombe
  • Mkhululi Moyo (35) of Nzwananzwi Village, Malisa, Silobela

Commissioner Nyathi extended the police’s sympathy to the bereaved families, saying, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police expresses condolences to the families of the victims.”

He also urged artisanal miners across the country to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season to prevent further loss of life.

“Meanwhile, the Police urges artisanal miners to prioritize their safety, especially this rainy season, to avoid loss of life,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

The Silobela tragedy has once again drawn attention to the dangerous conditions under which artisanal miners operate, often without proper equipment or safety measures in place. The ZRP has since reiterated its call for improved adherence to mining safety standards and regulations.
