Tinotenda Hove – The widow of national hero and liberation war stalwart Kumbirai Kangai, Miriam Kangai, has died at the age of 69.
Mrs Kangai reportedly succumbed to lung cancer after a period of illness. She passed away in South Africa, where she had been receiving medical treatment.
Mourners have gathered at the family residence at Number 24 Glen Forest Road to pay their respects.
Family spokesperson Tinayo Kangai confirmed the death to ZiFM Stereo News, describing her as a unifying force within the family.
“We have lost a mother, a strong pillar of the Kangai family. Mhamha, affectionately known as The Queen, will be remembered for her ability to unite the family under the mantra, kubatana ndoUnity, a strong slogan used by the late KK,” Tinayo said.
Her late husband, Kumbirai Kangai, died in 2013 at the age of 75. At the time of his passing, he was serving as a Zanu PF politburo member, having previously held several Cabinet positions.
