Tinotenda Hove -The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic incident in which a four-year-old boy died after being crushed by a falling tombstone in Mbare on Thursday.
Police said the accident occurred at the corner of Ninth Street and Mushongandebvu Street, where the child had accompanied his father to purchase a tombstone.
“The boy reportedly tripped and attempted to steady himself by holding onto a tombstone that was on display. Unfortunately, the tombstone fell and struck him on the head,” said the ZRP in a statement.
The child was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon admission.
Police have since urged parents and business owners to be vigilant and ensure safety in areas displaying heavy objects such as tombstones to avoid similar tragedies.
