Tinotenda Hove — The leader of the Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC), Michael Makaza, has lashed out at unnamed political rivals, accusing them of attempting to “steal” the party’s identity by adopting its signature purple colour.

In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, Makaza described the alleged move as a “shameful act of desperation” by opponents he says have failed to govern effectively.

“Fellow citizens, we stand here today to address a shameful act of desperation by those who have failed to govern with integrity. They’ve resorted to stealing our identity, rebranding their failed politics with our colour – purple,” he said.

Makaza argued that the move was not only an attack on his party but also an affront to Zimbabwean voters.

“This is not just an attack on our party, it’s an insult to the intelligence of the Zimbabwean people. They think they can confuse our voters, hijack our efforts, and claim our voice? We won’t let that happen!” he added.

The FFC leader vowed that his party would fiercely defend its identity, values, and political space.

“We will defend our values, our rights, and our colour with every breath,” Makaza declared.
He also issued a direct warning to those allegedly behind the move, questioning their motives and urging them to desist.

“To those behind this scheme, let me make one thing clear: we will fight tooth and nail, to the last drop of our blood. You have many colours to choose from, why ours?” he said.

Makaza, who serves as President of the Freedom Fighters for Change, called for respect of political boundaries and warned of consequences if the situation continues.

“As the President of Freedom Fighters for Change, I warn you: this madness must stop. Respect our rights, respect our efforts. Regret is a sign of foolishness, and you’ll regret this move,” he said.

Despite the escalating rhetoric, Makaza sought to reassure supporters of the party’s resolve and future.

“To my people, I assure you: freedom is certain. Join me in this fight for a free Zimbabwe,” he concluded.

The statement comes amid rising political tensions, with parties increasingly competing not only on policy but also on branding and symbolism as they seek to capture public attention.
