Tinotenda Hove- Controversial businessman and newly appointed Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Kudakwashe Tagwirei has secured another influential position in Zanu PF, further strengthening his standing within the ruling party amid growing speculation about his long-term political ambitions.
In a statement dated October 15, 2026, Zanu PF Information and Publicity Secretary Christopher Mutsvangwa announced a series of appointments and redeployments approved by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Tagwirei has been appointed to the newly designated position of Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion, adding to his growing influence in both government and party structures.
“The appointments are with immediate effect,” Mutsvangwa said in the statement.
The announcement also confirmed the appointment of Mayor Wadyajena to the party’s Central Committee, while former Science and Technology Secretary Obert Moses Mpofu was appointed to the Council of Elders.
Tagwirei’s latest elevation comes shortly after his appointment as Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion, placing him at the centre of the government’s efforts to attract investment and mobilise capital for the country’s economic development.
His rapid rise through influential political and economic circles is increasingly drawing attention, with questions emerging over whether the businessman is being positioned for a much bigger role in Zimbabwe’s future leadership.
Although there is no official indication that Mnangagwa intends to hand over power to Tagwirei, the businessman’s growing presence in key government and party positions is likely to fuel speculation about the succession battle within Zanu PF.
The development also comes against the backdrop of political tensions surrounding Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and uncertainty over the eventual direction of the ruling party’s leadership.
Tagwirei’s expanding influence could therefore become a significant factor in the internal calculations surrounding Zanu PF’s future leadership, particularly as the party navigates competing ambitions and the question of who will eventually succeed Mnangagwa.
For now, his appointment as Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion gives him another powerful platform within the ruling party, reinforcing his growing profile as a businessman whose political influence continues to expand.
