By A Correspondent – Chief Fortune Charumbira and fellow traditional leaders Chiefs Nhema and Chitanga are facing removal from the Senate following a decision by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to approve their recall over allegations of undermining his authority.
ZANU PF member Cde Walle disclosed the development on Wednesday, saying the three chiefs had been targeted for allegedly acting against the President’s authority.
“Chief Charumbira, Nhema and Chitanga vadzingwa for undermining President’s authority,” Walle said.
The decision reportedly follows a vote by the Masvingo Chiefs’ Assembly, where 42 chiefs supported the recall of the three traditional leaders.
Local Government Permanent Secretary Tafadzwa Muguti confirmed that Mnangagwa had approved the recall following the assembly’s decision.
The development places Charumbira, who has served as President of the National Council of Chiefs, alongside Chiefs Nhema and Chitanga, at the centre of a dispute over the conduct of traditional leaders and their relationship with the executive.
The circumstances surrounding the allegations of undermining presidential authority have not been fully detailed in the information released so far.
