By A Correspondent -A tragic incident has struck Ruti Dam after a four-year-old girl lost her life in a drowning accident while crossing the dam in a canoe.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the incident occurred on 20 June 2026 when a canoe carrying four people reportedly capsized in the waters of the dam. The young victim was identified as Moreblessing Zvoushe.

In a statement, police said, “The ZRP confirms a tragic drowning incident at Ruti Dam, Buhera on 20/06/26, in which a four-year-old female juvenile, Moreblessing Zvoushe, lost her life after a canoe carrying four people is suspected to have capsized while crossing the dam.”

The tragedy may be even worse, as three other occupants of the canoe remain unaccounted for and are feared dead.

Police added, “Three other occupants are still missing and are suspected to have drowned.”
Search efforts are still underway, with specialist rescue teams deployed to the area in an effort to recover the missing persons.
“Police Sub Aqua teams are still at the scene. More details will be released in due course,” the police said.

The heartbreaking incident has left the Buhera community in shock as families anxiously await updates on the ongoing rescue operation.
