Mukuru Robbers Nabbed Within Hours in Harare

Hararr – In a swift demonstration of police response and public cooperation, two suspected armed robbers were arrested within hours of targeting Mukuru, a money transfer outlet in Mabelreign, Harare on Friday.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of Tanaka Java (42) and Ronald Rupare (28) in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 1230 hours on February 7, 2026, at a Mukuru outlet.

According to police, the suspects allegedly attacked an employee before fleeing with a substantial sum of cash in multiple currencies.

Swift Arrest Following Tip-Off

The ZRP Mabelreign district acted rapidly after receiving a prompt report and a critical tip-off from members of the public. Officers pursued the suspects, leading to their interception and arrest at a police roadblock set up along Quinton Road in the adjacent suburb of Avondale.

Partial Recovery and Manhunt

The arrest led to the recovery of ZAR 10,000 of the stolen money. However, a third suspect managed to escape the roadblock and remains at large. Police have not released the identity of the fugitive.

The total amount reported stolen was:US$5,631 and ZAR 26,600

Police Applaud Public Vigilance

In a statement, the ZRP commended the public for their cooperation, which was instrumental in the rapid pursuit and arrest of the suspects. The incident highlights the force’s ongoing appeal for community partnership in combating crime.

“The ZRP commends the public for their cooperation in the pursuit of the suspects,” the statement read, adding that more details would be released in due course.

Investigations continue as police work to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover the outstanding cash.
